New Years Eve- Pet Bow Tie

Today is the last day of 2011 and what better way to celebrate then to create something stylish for your New Years Eve Event!  Whether you are at home or away, our pets should always celebrate, in style, with us! I had tons of left over ribbon from Christmas.  I thought I should find a more interesting way to put the discarded wrapping to good use!  Howie will be joining us this year for the end of year festivities but since he can be a bit under dressed at times I decided to make a bow tie to snaz him up!!

I found a great video on Youtube showing a quick way to make a decorative bow tie. Being me, I had to make the project easier and modified the steps. Fair warning, the song in the video is interesting!

I followed the first 2 steps directly, but instead of making a second bow, I wanted to leave this project simple and more traditional.

After I sewed each side together, I sewed down the middle.  When sewing down the center, I cinched the fabric a bit by pulling the thread. This created a more “traditional bow” shape.  I pinned and sewed the end piece of fabric, that will be used to create the center piece, to the top center of the bow.

I then wrapped the fabric around to meet the other side of the back of the bow.
I created a small pocket when sewing the other side together, to allow the dog collar to pass through.
Make sure to pull the fabric tight to get that bow tie effect!
The finished bow is about 6 in long and 1 1/2 in wide.
It could stand to be a bit smaller but I think the finished product looks rather handsome none-the-less

Happy New Year and Happy Celebrating!
